CD TWO KNIGHTS IN PEITZ
Matthias Schriefl, a very original musician with roots in the alpine tradition, explorer of jazz and indian music, has included me in various of his projects, as for example his Multi-Orchestra or the burlesque-dadaistic christmas band "Moving Krippenspielers". From the beginning, we also made music as a duo, which you can find more about →here on Matthias' website. After a concert in Peitz, a little East German town known for its free jazz festival, we stayed two nights (and days) longer for recording. „For Jazz it’s not a matter of what one plays but rather how one plays“, the genius pianist Bill Evans once said. Following this statement, Matthias and me discover the potential of some gems of Europe's music history. Beginning with the German tenor song of the Renaissance (Heinrich Isaac, Ludwig Senfl) and the early drinking song of the Renaissance (Henning Dedekind – trink ich Wein, so verderb ich) over Early Baroque Madrigales (Johann Hermann Schein), Chorals of various styles (Johann S. Bach, Johann Crüger a.o.), dancing sets by Ludwig van Beethoven up to Alpine yodels and compositions of the 20th and 21st century of European and American tradition. Matthias and me re-process some of our ‚favorite works‘ into a pleasant new interpretation. And we present own compositions. Experience a variety of music, here and there with some added flavor and a little touch of craziness. The CD ist available at →Jazzwerkstatt . Matthias Schriefl : trumpet, flugelhorn, euphonium, tuba, alphorn, accordion, voice // Simon Rummel : organ, melodica, piano, fender rhodes, harpsichord, viola, voice, and even some notes on a clarinet.
